corso umberto I

The street leads from Porto Messina across the city to Porto Catania.  It’s lined with historic buildings, Sicilian souvenir shops, a number of beautiful piazza’s and many restaurants. Yet again, it was a beautiful day!!

monochromatic pinspiration

Monochromatic PinspirationLOVING monochromatic.  Especially all black everything.  The picture on the left is from Pinterest for this weeks Pinspiration post.  What I love about this look is that:  1) it’s all black, 2) oversized sweaters are so comfy and 3) this street look is still stylish and looks totally effortless – it took no time to put together!

leather skirt

More leather!  The temps here in Chicago are so crazy! Cold than hot, rainy than sunny.    Well, luckily my wardrobe can handle all weather conditions 🙂  That’s what I love about my leather skirt.  I can wear it all year round.  While it is still nice out, I can wear it with street shoes and a tshirt (the most comfy tee from Club Monaco, btw).  As it gets cooler I can wear it with sweaters and when winter is here I can wear it with tights!  It’s a perfect versatile piece that works into my wardrobe well.  Also, I can wear it casually like these photos or I can add heels and a blouse and wear it to the office.  Either way, It’s a staple item that I can get a lot of use out of it!  I found it on sale at H&M last year.  It was an impulse buy that I did not expect to become such a great piece – love finds like this 🙂

my first year blogging

happy bloggingHAPPY BLOGIVERSARY TO ME!!!!

I can’t even believe one year ago today I published my very first blog post (click here to read it) – ah!!! I started The Sicilian Swede because I wanted to share myself with the world using fashion as my vehicle.  It has been an amazing journey and it’s only been a year! LOL. I have met some really great people, bloggers and new, wonderful friends! I have put myself out there in ways I was never comfortable with before and now I’m doing things I never thought I could do! My blog has made me so happy and I have discovered many things about myself through blogging.  I still feel like I have no idea what I am doing even after a year but it’s been an incredible learning experience and I’ve only just begun 🙂

food + fashion

I love brunch!  I mean, who doesn’t like breakfast food – at any time of the day for that matter 🙂  I just recently had brunch at a new spot in Chicago – Pomp & Circumstance. YUM!  This place is so cute!  From the food to the decor this is a cool spot!  My friend and I went for brunch but it’s also a great spot for drinks, date night or dinner with friends.  They have a really cool lounge space on the second floor.

Because it’s so hard to chose only one breakfast item we shared the Breakfast Sandwich and the Brioche French Toast…SCORE! I left Pomp & Circumstance so wired from the French press coffee btw – it was delicious.  I’m a sucker for coffee 🙂

Enough about the food, let’s talk fashion! Pomp has a pretty chill vibe so I thought this outfit fit well with the ambience.  I am loving crop tops right now. This basic white one from Forever21 is finding its way into a lot of my looks.  It’s a great layering piece under coats and sweaters. I love the high neck, it’s chic!  It works with every pair of overalls I own too 🙂

I like the tiny or big details jewelry can add to a look.  I love subtle but significant pieces like this gold ear pin…it’s hidden but when you see it, it leaves an impact!

PS – I am sooo obsessed with the painted brick wall with accents of gold in the lounge.  I think you might see more of this background in the future 🙂

fall flannel

Fall! AHHH I just love everything about this time of year.  Not just my wardrobe either believe it or not 🙂 The leaves changing, football season (go Steelers!!), hot drinks, crockpot meals and of course Halloween and Thanksgiving! The list goes on…. but back to my wardrobe…:)….I do love fall fashion.  It’s so much more dimensional than summer fashion – for obvious reasons.  I have very few flannels but this is one of my favorites.  It’s less masculine then some flannels can be and styling it with heels and a floppy hat make the perfect combo!  I feel comfortable, edgy and girly all in one look! I love being able to wear my floppy hat all year round – it literally is fitting into my wardrobe in so many ways.  Like I mentioned in my boho chic post, this is just another way of styling a floppy hat.  Hope that gives you some inspiration for styling your own hat!

scarf season

Scarf season is here!  This black and white plaid scarf is the newest addition to my collection this year and it was only $12.90 from Forever21 – score! It’s perfect for fall because it’s big enough to wear as a wrap in case you don’t want to commit to a jacket.  Of course it is black and white so it goes with everything I own. Scarves are a great accessory because they are stylish and functional. Win and win! Plus, who doesn’t love to cuddle up with scarves, right ?! 🙂

leather bermuda shorts

Fall is here! And I finally get to wear my leather bermuda shorts! These shorts were just too hot to wear in the summer.  I love all things leather…or faux leather too 🙂 Leather in the summer isn’t always practical, it’s just too warm. So now that the temperatures are slowly dropping out comes the leather!! wahooo!  My fall wardrobe is made up of mostly leather…can’t wait to show you!

As I’m learning to buy less and less for each season (check back to hear about my transformation to a more minimal wardrobe and lifestyle, I’m calling it “The Minimalist Movement” ) I need to make sure whatever I buy is versatile and can be worn lots of different ways. What I like about these shorts is that I can wear them with heels, flats or booties.  Super versatile depending on the look I want.  They will be perfect with a long grey sweater and street shoes too!  Love that idea – maybe that will be my next post? 🙂 How do you style your bermuda shorts?
